Mr. Scott Melvin here from Italy: "Amen!"

After another full day of sightseeing on the beautiful island of Capri (and some lovely Mediterranean rain showers), the Mater Dei High School Chorus, their families and friends, enjoyed a special coastal farewell dinner at the ancient Torre Normanna, a restaurant situated in a tower right of a cliff just outside of Maiori. Mr. Scott Melvin on the experiences on the Amalfi Coast: "From recording in beautiful San Francesco this morning (Grazie mille Don Domenico!), to the unbelievable spectacle of last nights' performance in the Duomo of Amalfi to 800 people on Sunday night, everything has exceeded my expectations. The kids are thrilled to be singing in these unbelievable venues and I think the parents are having even more fun than their kids!" After indulging on a gigantic pizza and veggie buffet at the 12th century tower, the younguns danced off at least a pound at the hotel discoteque organized just for them. Don't worry, Moms, no Italian boys other than our new best friend, Mario, Mater Dei HS newest groupie who is well in his 70s and harmless. The gentleman attended every single performance of the choirs and left a souvenir picture for one of the chaperones from his glory days in the 1950s. Now it is time to say Buena Notta from Italy! Next stops tomorrow are the Benedictine Abbey of Montecassino and Rome. Don't forget that you can comment on this blog and we will pass your greetings on to everyone on the tour. Arriverderci!!!

  1. The pictures are beautiful and the music of the choral group is amazing. We love being able to hear them sing in these venues even though we couldn't be there ourselves. The blog on the historical background of what you are seeing is an added bonus. I plan on saving the whole thing once the trip is over. Everyone looks like there are having a wonderful time. I would like to give a "shout out" to my daughter Caitlin Tougas. We love you and everyone be safe! Missy Tougas

  2. It sounds as though everyone is soaking in the beauty of Italy, and the audiences appear extremely appreciate as well. Please make sure to rest your voices, there is still a lot of 'important' singing to do! Can't wait to hear the recordings when they are available!
Much love and many good thoughts to all and to Olivia in particular!

  10. Wow, truly, the trip-of-a-lifetime for these kids. The blog/pictures/video are wonderful -- keep 'em comin'! They are a great source of comfort and joy to those of us here at home misssing our children, so thank you for that! As much as you, the choir, have benefitted from this trip, it is made all the more wonderful when you step back and realize just what you have given back in return. You have all left long-lasting impressions in the hearts and minds of Italians everywhere thru your beautiful gift of music. Wishing you all continued success and safe travels moving forward. And....will someone please give my daughter Hannah a big bear hug from me?! :)
